Median earnings for workers in the Horse and Dog Racing Activities industry group are lower than workers across all industries in New Zealand, while worker turnover rate is higher. There was a decreasing trend in the number of filled jobs between 2019 and 2022.

We sourced revenue data from IBISWorld but this was only available in aggregate for the whole of lotteries and bookmaking operations but is included for context. In 2022, $4 billion1 was generated as revenue for lotteries and bookmaking operations in New Zealand. Industry revenue for this broader group is forecast to increase at an annual rate of 1.3% over five years through 2027/28, to $4.2 billion.
