- Export revenue for fresh and processed vegetables is forecast to grow as demand rises due to improved trade agreements, declining production in the Europe Union and the United States, and consumers focusing on health and sustainability.
- Despite the recent fall in contribution to GDP from Vegetable growers’, there was an increase for 2023-2024 which is forecast to continue to slowly increase over the next five years. The adoption of new technologies will help support efficiencies leading to improved profitability.
- Onions have the highest export revenue of all fresh, frozen and processed vegetables. Around 85% of New Zealand’s onion crop is exported, with the European Union being the largest export market.1.
