The Vegetable industry workforce has steadily declined since 2017, while its high employee proportion remains stable at around 80%.
Over half the workforce are in Outdoor Vegetable Growing, and in 2022 this fell to below 6,000 workers.
The monthly number of employees in the workforce reflects the very seasonal nature of the Vegetable industry, particularly Outdoor Vegetable Growing, with numbers peaking over summer (December to March) and lowest over winter (June to September).
