New education products for Equine, Greyhounds and Racing industry group
After consultation with the Equine industry, a new Assistant Trainer qualification at Level 4 was developed by Muka Tangata and subsequently published in May 2023. This qualification will provide the equine racing industry with people who have the skills and knowledge to manage horses and oversee staff in racing stables.
We have worked with industry to simplify the New Zealand Certificate in Equine Racing (Level 4), with strands in Thoroughbred Racing Jockey, Harness Trainer, and Harness Racing Driver.
We have revised the qualification to remove overlapping content, reducing the Harness Trainer strand from 130 to 95 credits and the Harness/Standardbred racing Driver strand from 135 to 120 credits. In addition, we have simplified the Graduate Profile Outcomes (GPO).
We will continue to support the Equine industry as required in the development of any further qualifications, micro-credentials or standards as well as through the work of our Quality Assurance and Enhancement team.
