An insight into pest management

Pest Management Association of NZ (PMANZ) has over 550 members and is a growing association with a focus on ensuring members have access to professional resources, training, and development.

Our Engagement and Partnerships manager Catherine Ross attended the PMANZ conference in August. There were opportunities to hear directly from learners, employers and to find out about new technology like species detection using AI.

The conference not only gave a direct insight into what’s happening within the pest management sector, but it also provided opportunities to hear about how PMANZ are using the urban pest management strand of the Pest Operations Level 3 qualification in their broader continuous professional development (CPD) and “Pathway to Mastery”.

To be registered as a PMANZ technician, a member must undertake the NZ Certificate in Pest Operations (or equivalent qualifications), have public liability insurance of $1million or more, have health and safety policies and procedures in place, maintain CPD, and have completed at least 12 months of pest control. Most attendees in the room had therefore undertaken vocational training and many were also workplace assessors.

A huge thanks to PMANZ for hosting Muka Tangata and providing a great insight into the world of a pest control technician.
