We began the Irrigation qualification development project in January 2025. The project is a combined review of three existing Irrigation qualifications and 10 unit standards.

IrrigationNZ supports a comprehensive review and development of new education products to align with industry needs. We will work together with the Irrigation industry to review the three qualifications. The review will also assess what other products, such as micro-credentials and skill standards, may be needed to support the qualification.

The qualifications and standards in review are:

  • NZ Certificate in Irrigation Systems Management (Level 4)
  • NZ Certificate in Irrigation System Performance Assessment (Level 4)
  • NZ Certificate in Irrigation System Design (Level 5)
  • 5 unit standards at Level 4
  • 5 unit standards at Level 5

The review and potential development of new educational products will be achieved through consultation and engagement with key industry partners, including Māori iwi and businesses, IrrigationNZ as the leading industry body, farmers, NZQA, and Primary ITO.

Key Steps:

  • March – May 2025 – Review, develop and confirm qualifications
  • March – June 2025 – Advisory group meetings
  • July 2025 – Education products submitted to NZQA
