The Pork industry struggles to attract people with the right skills for the specific requirements of the work. The industry has historically relied on skilled migrant workers to fill a gap in skills, but the closing of the borders during COVID-19 and changes to immigration rules have made this harder. Employers find it difficult to find skilled workers across Aotearoa. 

Engagement with the Poultry industry has told us that they also struggle to attract people, and it is thought that there is a general lack of awareness around the existence of the industry.
