Equine,Greyhounds and Racing

We are working to support the development of sustainable training pathways. We will support New Zealand Thoroughbred Racing as it develops a more sustainable training pathway (up to Class A trainer) that attracts younger people into the industry and enables trainers to have transferable qualifications. This includes the creation of a new Assistant Trainer qualification at level 4.

Latest update:

After consultation with the Equine industry, a new Assistant Trainer qualification at Level 4 was developed by Muka Tangata and subsequently published in May 2023. This qualification will provide the equine racing industry with people who have the skills and knowledge to manage horses and oversee staff in racing stables.

Muka Tangata will continue to support the Equine industry as required in the development of any further qualifications, micro-credentials or standards as well as through the work of our Quality Assurance and Enhancement team.
