The New Zealand wine industry has embarked on a major workforce research project, taking stock of the current roles and skills across the sector to identify workforce gaps and plan for the future needs of the industry. A survey was initiated at the end of September 2023, inviting growers, wine companies and providers of industry goods and services to share insights into their workforce and what skills they need. The collaborative project is being co-funded by the Sector Workforce Engagement Programme, part of Kānoa – Regional Economic Development, New Zealand Winegrowers (NZW), and the Marlborough Research Centre (MRC). Pending confirmation, initial findings from this survey are expected to be released in March 2024.

This work will contribute to gaining better data to understand industry workforce and skills needs.
