Māori workers formed approximately 16% of the Muka Tangata industries’ workforce since 2015. Nearly a quarter of them are in the Support Services industry group1 followed by Sheep, Beef and Deer Farming (19%).

More than 30% of kaimahi in the Forestry industry group2 are Māori. This is the highest proportion of Māori in the workforce of any Muka Tangata industry group. Similarly, more than a quarter of the Seafood workforce identified as Māori.

1. Support Services is an overarching name for a collection of industries that supports the outputs of the food and fibre production sector. Support Services includes a wide variety of jobs from pest control to artificial insemination, and sheep dipping.
